Definition and causes

Galaktoré is a term for a condition where there is eliminated milk from the breasts when this should not occur (usually secreted from breast milk to just before giving birth and during breast feeding). Galaktoré is very rare in men, and somewhat more often in women.

The reason may be flushed too much female sex hormone, which means that it may also be caused by use of the contraceptive pill (although a rare cause). About 20% of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCO) are experiencing galaktoré. In addition, the state is due to a hypofysetumor where there is an overproduction of the hormone prolactin, which stimulates milk production in the chest.

Symptoms of galaktoré

The person discovers a removal of a milk-like fluid. This may be of varying looks mostly white and might. gritty. It is important to examine the liquid, so that the doctor can explain the appearance (color, texture, smell), which can give an idea of what the person fails. The fluid can also be caused by anything other than milk production (as inflammation or cancer).

Often occurs mode with the default of menstruation (amenorrhea) or irregular menstruation (oligomenorré).

Precautions and diagnosis

If you are experiencing separation of fluid from the breast, and we are not at the end of a pregnancy or breast-feeding, is it whatever the appearance of liquid the doctor.

If the fluid is bloody (brownish or reddish), it may be due to cancer of the breast, and the doctor will typically start an explanation for this in the form of a tripeltest.

Is there a suspicion that it is galaktoré, therefore, if the liquid has the appearance of milk, typically take a blood test, which measures the sex hormones to see if there can be no question of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCO), or your doctor may refer to an MRI or CT scan if he suspects a hypofysetumor.

Galaktoré are usually two-sided, while secretion from cancer usually is SINGLE.

Treatment of galaktoré

Treatment depends on the underlying disease.
Is galaktoréen that women suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO), will be a hormone replacement therapy (what kind of depends on whether the woman wishes to become pregnant), and weight loss, since women with polycystic ovary syndrome are often overweight (formation of the female sex hormone among other things happening in adipose tissue).

Is the state a hypofysetumor will typically begin medical treatment (with bromokriptin or carbergolin), but if the tumor is large, the operation is necessary.

Selected

If there is an underlying disease, will galaktorréen usually disappear by themselves.
