Definition and causes

Lyme disease or Borrelia is a bacterial disease that manifests itself in different ways. It is available by infection with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. This bacterium is borne in Denmark, including deer and mice, and transmitted to humans through skovflåten. Bakterien absorbed by flåten to suck the blood of an animal, and passed by bites to humans. It is far from all skovflåter which transmits the Borrelia, so you can easily be bitten without getting Borrelia.

Symptoms of Borrelia

If skovflåten transmitted borrelia-bacterium, will be after 3 to 30 days to see redness around bidstedet. Flushing will spread ring away from bidstedet (so-called erythema migrans) and gradually the skin at the heart regain its normal colour and udslættet will resemble a dartskive.

Udslættet can be up to one meter in diameter. There can appear red spots elsewhere on the body in this period.

There is often perceived ease pain and flu-like symptoms. The disease is 1. stage, and can go in themselves then, but without treatment, the disease can develop into stage 2. and 3. (See Select and complications).

Precautions

Skovflåten found in the tall grass and shrubbery, and most infected in the summer and efterårsmånederne, where the weather is easier to dress. After that we have received flåten on the body, it migrates to the hot and humid places on the body, such as armhulerne and paced. It is therefore important to look very carefully throughout the body, if you have resided in an environment of risk skovflåter. The vast clothing is to recommend, if you go for long periods of time in places with ticks.

It is important, as soon as possible to remove ticks found, as the risk of infection with borrelia increases, the longer flåten be allowed to be seated. Eliminating flåten within 24 hours, the risk of borrelia minimal. (See section on skovflåter .

Diagnosis

Diagnosis made in the light of information on flåtbid, and the characteristic red rash and flu-like symptoms. When a blood test, the doctor can see if there are bacteria in the blood. The involvement of the nervous system, it may be necessary to take a lumbar spine punktur , Which is a sample of rygmarvsvæsken.

Consideration of Borrelia

All stages of borrelia can and should be treated with penicillin. The stage 1 is a 10-day treatment with penicillin tablets enough, and the disease will go by itself within 14 days. In more advanced stages (see Select and complications), it is necessary to give penicillin in large doses and directly into a vein. There are erstatningsantibiotika to penicillin-allergy. The earlier antibiotics given the better the prognosis.

Select and complications

Stage 2 is found a few days after stage 1. You get:

  • Muscle and joint pain.

  • Fever.

  • Chills.

  • Udtalt fatigue.

At around. 15% developed inflammation of the nervous system, for example. meningitis.
About 10% will experience inflammation of cardiac muscle, which can lead hjerterytmeforstyrrelser.

The last and 3. stage follows a few months after infection, and occurs in about. 50-60%. You may experience sustained nervepåvirkninger as

  • Følelsesforstyrrelser.

  • Paralysis.

  • Pain.

  • Impaired memory.
